Sadly, mass-produced gates built solely for low cost has pretty much done away with solid, stoutly built gates, leaving us with sagging eyesores held tenuously together with coat hangers and bungee cords. A half century ago, United States Steel actually operated a chain link fence subsidiary, Cyclone Fence – American Steel and Wire Div. These guys knew what they were doing. I’d guess thousands (I know of hundreds) of the gates produced by Cyclone are still in use today, still fully functional. Other than in name, their gates hold little in common with so-called “gates” commonly available today. We have taken a page from their playbook, recreating a modern version of their time-proven design. Ours, like theirs, are gates that are built up to a quality, not built down to a price. What makes our gate kits differ from other kits offered here? Weight, gauge, design and completeness – all critical factors for a gate’s longevity. Heavy, pressed steel gate corner “ell” fittings, not soft, brittle pot metal. The correct hardware to hinge and latch your new gates. We don’t care to be the cheapest, preferring to offer only the best. This kit comes complete with all material necessary to complete one, double gate : pre-cut tube and strong steel elbows; fabric and tension rods with bands ; drop rod pin with guides; fork latch with collars; male post hinges and female frame hinges; plus all requisite hardware, pre-packaged and ready for your assembly. Excluded from this package: 2 in-ground hinge posts and sufficient post footing concrete – you will need to source the posts 2 pcs. X 8′-0 heavy wall and redi-mix concrete locally. Our kit includes tubing that is ready-cut to exactly fit the specific opening size selected. Call Miss-Dig (dial 811) prior to any digging – follow their instructions. When cleared to dig, drill your post holes. Set your two posts into large, deep, full concrete footings. It’s important to make sure that these posts stand true to plumb. Allow the concrete to cure (three dry days) before proceeding further. Measure between these two set posts – for raw openings less than or equal to 10′-0″, select the 10′ model; for openings greater than 10′-0″ but less than or equal to 12′-0, select the 12′ model. The 12′ model will include vertical center frame braces (not shown). Customizing for narrower width sizes is easy, requiring only a tape measure and a hack saw. Need wider or taller? These gate kits are non-stock and will be cut to order. Please allow about one week to run this package through our steel shop. Tools required for assembly: power drill, 3/8 nut driver and a pair of pliers. Additionally, a hack saw, sawzall or tube cutter will be needed to size the kit, if need be.
