Model has Plexiglas case. Esso Annapolis, US Oil Tanker, Dimensions: 33″L x 8″ H x 5 W, Approx. Scale: 1/16 = 1′, Approximate Age/Year Built: 1940, Class: A/B, Model Artist: Bethlehem Steel Co. This model is an effort to replicate a typical pre and post WWII tanker/oiler, the type built for the US Navy and then leading oil companies such as Mobil, Texaco and ESSO. These vessels were 525′ in length and had a “three island” superstructure arrangement. In fact they produced a commercial kit of this vessel type given its popularity and is still available today. This model was no doubt commissioned by Bethlehem Steel Co. And given out as gifts. Thus, the plaque inscriptions: presented to George L. Thus, would contend that the model is constructed from a solid wood hull (bass or mahogany), has a combination of built-up and solid superstructure, brass, white metal and Britannia fittings.
